White Jeans

June 21, 2009 Rena

It’s BEFORE Labor Day, ladies, break out the bleach and the white jeans. That rule I think doesn’t apply anymore, but regardless, it’s summer and white jeans are white hot right now.

Wear It:

The key to making this look work is the style of jeans you choose.  Typically, tall girls work best with a bit of flare in the leg; it keeps those long legs in check.  Straight leg usually works well on shorter girls – like myself.  Get in that fitting room and try, try, try.  Jeans are tricky!

Try to stay away from too many pockets or cut the pockets out.  Bulk tends to show more on white jeans than regular jeans.

If you are not a size 0 (yes, real women do exist!), use your judgement when pairing these jeans with tops – just as I mentioned with the pockets, white jeans tend show more bulk.  I don’t have the best stomach, so I’m going to stay away from crop tops and tight tanks with my white jeans.  They’re so versatile, so pull out the tunics, the baby-doll tops, and longer shirts as well.

The best jean advice I’ve received was this: Jeans are all about the cut and the fit.  Denim is denim. If an inexpensive pair looks best; buy ’em!

One more thing: don’t be afraid of capris!  White jeans can be great in all the different lengths and styles that regular jeans have.

Accessorize It:

There are TONS of accessories that you can use to jazz up the white jean.  Think of it as a clean palatte and use the rest of your wardrobe to color it!  These jeans can be casual (think ballet flats, and simple tee) or dressy (think gladiator sandals and sparkly-top) or business-casual (think heels and a colorful neck scarf).   I would definitely add color in whatever else you pick – the shoes, the purse, the top, jewelry.  You don’t want to look like a painter.

And please do be aware that you are wearing white pants when you have them on, no one enjoys seeing the ketchup stain or the bench you didn’t know was wet.  The good thing is you can throw them in the wash (seperately of course from other conflicting materials) with a bit of bleach and BAM new jeans.

Find It:

White jeans are EVERYWHERE this summer.  The good spots I’ve heard are:

The Gap – The Gap is epic for staples like this one.

Anthropologie – Has a couple interesting styles

Saks Fifth Avenue – Some designer, some not; pretty reasonable prices

True Religion – A bit pricier, but great styles

I haven’t owned a pair of white jeans in years, but I love how these look in the photos you posted! I might have to give it a try this summer… I don’t really follow fashion and as a result my wardrobe is seriously lacking. Your site just might be a savior for me. : )

Thanks for your feedback Sarah! You should definitely give them a try 🙂 The nice thing about wardrobes is that it doesn’t take but a few pieces here and there to spruce it up. I still have clothes from AGES ago I work in here and there with a couple new items each season. I’m glad to hear the site may spark some inspiration though! Every girl loves to feel fashionable and pretty every once in awhile…
