The Maxi Dress

June 18, 2009 Rena

The Maxi dress returns from the 70’s in this summer’s hot trend. They are floor length summer dresses and the bohemian/flowered pattern has come with it.  The Maxi Dress can look good on all people if the proper fit is present. Length and a loose-fitting, light material is the key to keeping this look slim, slendering, and lengthening.

Wear It:

The key to the Maxi dress is finding a length that is good for you.  I am a shorty – 5’4″ and have found that the more solid colors make me appear slim and tall.  I pair it with thin heels or wedges to keep the dress from hitting the floor.  A good rule of thumb is to keep the hemline just skimming the tops of your toes.  The length of the dress can be broken up a bit with a little cropped jacket or cardigan.  I stay away from these however as I need all the length I can get.  Taller girls can get away with no jacket and/or flats. also states:

-Choose a close fitting empire line maxi dress which flatters most figures.

-Choose a sleek, stylish A-line or bias cut, as this style flatters shorter silhouettes

-For extra height, dresses can be accessorized with patent platforms, wedges or feminine toe-covered sling backs.

Accessorize It:

Several sources state to stay away from chunky jewelry, but I think if the pattern is right (chunky-pattern) maybe a fat bracelet or earrings would look good.  The Maxi dress is so versatile and comes in hundreds of colors, patterns, and varying designs.

Find It:

There are many price points for this dress, starting from $15 – up!

Pac Sun – bright colors

Forever 21 – the cheapest price point I’ve seen!

Urban Outfitters – lots of Bohemian/pattern styles

Nordstrom – different price points, lots to chose from.
